These two weeks have flown by! I can't believe Ryan is already two weeks old! Ryan has definitely been a better newborn his second week. On his one week birthday, we had to go back to the hospital to have his bilirubin tested due to his jaundice. The test came back at 17.2. The nurse said that they normally admit the child back into the hospital if it reaches 18. At this point, I was still exclusively breastfeeding so we were told to supplement his feedings with some formula and come back the next day to get retested. They just wanted to see his numbers go down. Well, with his numbers so high, I made the decision to just feed him all formula and pump for the next 24 hours. We also spent the entire next morning outside getting sun. Thankfully that all worked because when we went back on Tuesday, his numbers had dropped to 13.3 and he was looking a lot better!! Due to a number of reasons, I also made the decision to start feeding Ryan expressed breast milk and to give him formula during the night. We've been doing that for almost a week and he seems soooo much more happy and content and I'm much more happier. So in the end, I think it was the best decision for both of us! We also had our two week appointment yesterday and he seems to be doing great!
Ryan at two weeks you:
- Are eating about 2-3 ounces every 2-3 hours for a total of about 18-21 ounces a day. This is a lot more than your brother ate at this age so I'm not sure what to do! Nathan was not even eating this much till he was about 2-3 months old and that took a CONSIDERABLE amount of effort on mommy and daddy's part to feed it to him. Hopefully your good eating continues!
- Eat expressed breast milk for about 60% of your feedings and eat formula at night.
- Starting to be a little more alert. During the day you sometimes don't have any awake time while other days you are up for about an hour or a little more.
- Weigh 7 lbs 1 oz!! (you regained your birth weight and gained 4 ounces more!). Your brother at this age was still about 6 ounces less than his birth weight. This puts you in the 11th percentile
- Are 21.5 inches long (80th percentile)
- Have a head circumference of 13.5 (8th percentile)
